BUCKINGHAM AFC WIMBLEDON

The development of the Buckingham AFC Wimbledon pitch represented a remarkable construction achievement in the busy location of Wimbledon, London. The project unfolded in two phases: the first phase involved installing safety margins and run-offs for the Cherry Red Record stadium pitch, followed by the construction of a 5v5 3G facility nearby. Throughout the project, our team faced significant challenges due to the busy location, with tight delivery times and coordination with other contractors and deliveries. Despite these hurdles, we successfully completed the project within the allotted timeframe, demonstrating our expertise and adaptability in overcoming complex construction challenges.

Resurfacing Existing Tarmac MUGA
The works were completed at the award-winning college located in Cirencester, Gloucester. An existing tarmac MUGA was renovated into a brand new multi-use artificial grass surface with markings for football, netball, and hockey. The new facility was situated beautifully within the well-maintained, open natural grass surroundings and landscaped vicinity. Sportfields Ltd. held meetings with Rendcomb College representatives, Matt and Brett, who were extremely helpful and professional throughout the duration of the project, which allowed us to complete the works in a smooth and efficient operating environment.

SHERFORD NEW TOWN
Natural Pitch Works & Drainage
The earthworks commenced with meticulous site preparation, where a tractor-mounted ripper was employed to clear debris and expose underlying stones for crushing. The topsoil was then remediated using a fixed hammer stone crusher. Accurate grading and trimming of the topsoil were conducted with a laser-controlled blade to ensure an even surface free of water-holding pockets. Lateral and main drains all backfilled with shingle and rootzone. Soil improvements were made with the incorporation of medium fine topdressing sand into the top 65mm of soil. Finishing works included final cultivations, grading, and the application of pre-seeding fertiliser, followed by sowing of an approved sports field seed mix. Initial maintenance was performed, and the project was successfully handed over.

ORSETT HEATH ACADEMY
New World Rugby 22 Artificial Pitch
The project involved the installation of a new World Rugby 22 Artificial Pitch. The works included excavation and drainage, establishing a footprint with a perforated drainage system, a 300mm depth of Type 3 reduced fines stone, a 20mm depth insitu rubber shockpad, and 60mm Desso iQ3 60-12 synthetic grass turf that met World Rugby regulations. A 4.5m high sports rebound fencing with ballstop netting was constructed behind one goal, alongside 3.0m high fencing on three sides, and a 6-mast LED floodlighting system was installed to provide a minimum of 200 LUX. A tarmac viewing path and additional storage area were also created, and line marking was completed for full-size rugby and football, including cross-court marking for 9v9 football. The project provided goal equipment, including 13m high rugby goal posts and self-weighted football goals, and passed an independent test for World Rugby 22 regulations successfully.

Artificial Sand Dressed Pitch & Natural Grass Playing Field
The Charborough Road School project was a remarkable transformation of a tired, overgrown site into a modern Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). The project's scope was to revitalise the space, incorporating beautiful landscaping, amenity grass, and open spaces, while also preserving the existing habitat areas.
The end result was a beautiful MUGA that provided a safe and enjoyable space for students and staff alike.

WASPS ELITE PERFORMANCE AND INNOVATION CENTRE
World Rugby 22 Training Pitches
Sportfields has successfully constructed a full-size 3G training pitch and high-standard natural pitches for Wasps RFC, which were received with enthusiasm. The project included a World Rugby 22 AGP full-size pitch featuring a 60mm pile height synthetic carpet, comprehensive earthworks, subbase, and shockpad installation, as well as a 1.2m high spectator fence and an 8-mast LED floodlighting system. Rugby posts were also installed, and independent surface testing confirmed compliance. Additionally, natural pitches were equipped with an irrigation and piped drainage system, completed earthworks, soil mobilisation, rootzone installation, and a gravel raft system to enhance drainage. Soil ameliorants, including granular seaweed, rootzone, fertiliser, and seed, were applied, along with the construction of a smaller training area to replicate the performance properties of the main pitch.

Sportfields Ltd. has transformed the new school in Exeter with state-of-the-art sporting facilities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for students to participate in physical activities. Our dedicated team prioritised high standards to create facilities that will inspire future generations of athletes and promote healthy lifestyles. The project includes a full-size synthetic all-weather pitch compliant with World Rugby 22 and FIFA Quality Pro standards, complete with rebound sports fencing and LED floodlighting. Additionally, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) features a porous super-sport tarmacadam surface for tennis and netball, alongside natural grass pitches for football and rugby, complete with a drainage system and soft landscaping. The installation also includes custom 17m high ball-stop fencing adjacent to the A30 and maintenance support for all facilities.

HAMPTON GARDENS SECONDARY SCHOOL

Multi-Sport Facility.
Sportfields Ltd. was proud to be awarded a prestigious contract with Carillion through competitive tendering, this project was a challenging task synchronising operations with other contractors building the school. The natural sports pitches had to be established, and ready for use at the same time as the completion and handover of the synthetic and MUGA areas. This included; two full size football pitches, one full size rugby pitch, one 9x9 junior pitch, training grids and 400m running track. The artificial sports surfaces consisted of; one full sized 3G sand filled synthetic surface to FIFA quality, one MUGA including; three netball, four tennis and two basketball training courts on a porous macadam base, along with two 40m long jumps and landing pits. All works were carried out and scheduled to complete satisfaction on time for opening.

ST MARY'S AND ST GILES PRIMARY SCHOOL

Multi-Sport Facility
Working with Jeakins Weir for the installation of a TigerTurf multi-sport system at Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes was a rewarding experience, despite the challenges posed by site access. Careful navigation around the narrow bends at the back of the school required assistance from banksmen to guide delivery vehicles and ensure safety for pedestrians. An aluminium trackway was installed to maintain the site's condition. The project involved installing a 75m x 48m pitch with two goal recesses, totaling 3,628m². Key works included topsoil stripping, cut and fill, a drainage system at 5m centers, geotextile membrane, Type 3 sub-base, concrete kerbing, a 40mm porous tarmac surface, a 15mm rubber shockpad, Tiger Turf Evo Pro 18mm pile height, multi-sport line markings, 3m high perimeter fencing, shaping of surrounding banks, and independent surface testing.

Sportfields Ltd. was thrilled to be appointed by Midas Construction as the contractor for new sport pitch facilities at Loxton Campus.
Commencing in January 2019, the artificial works were scheduled for an 8-10 week build, seamlessly transitioning into the spring season for natural pitch development. The 3G pitch, measuring 106m x 70m, included topsoil stripping, formation, geotextile membrane installation, drainage works, a concrete kerb, a macadam storage area, spectator viewing facilities with fencing, an SBR rubber shock pad, a Desso iQ3 40mm system with line markings, and an 8-mast floodlighting system achieving 300 LUX. The natural football pitch, also 106m x 70m, involved vegetation clearance, herbicide application, scarifying, rootzone application, pre-seeding fertiliser, and overseeding. All works were completed on schedule to ensure a timely opening.

Hallen Football Club undertook a project to refurbish and extend their multi-use games area (MUGA) into a new 3G pitch, expanding from 1,800 square meters to 2,592 square meters. Funded by Facilitating Sport and club-generated capital, the collaboration aimed to create a long-lasting facility for both the club and the local community. Sportfields completed the project ahead of schedule, culminating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony by ex-pro England legend John Barnes. The refurbishment involved clearing vegetation, dismantling old fencing, restoring the existing surface, excavating for expansion, installing a concrete kerb, a Type 3 stone sub-base, an SBR shock-pad, a 40mm pile height carpet with play lines, and a 3-meter high twin wire fence with rebound panels, as well as upgrading the floodlighting system.

Multi Sports Complex - Tennis and 3G Football
Sportfields Ltd. proudly installed a new sporting complex with John Perkins Construction for North Somerset Council, consisting of the latest LED floodlighting system, complementing four new 3G Cork based football pitches and two colour coated porous based Macadam tennis courts.The works completed by Sportfields Ltd. consisted of bulk earthmoving, laser grading, land drainage (tanked system), stone raft, laser laid porous tarmacadam, 4.5m colour coated rebound fencing, LED Floodlighting system, IDNX45 Desso artificial carpet, cork crumb infill to FA standard. The twelve week programme was completed on time and within budget, opening October 2017.

The Exeter Football Club training ground features a full-size 3G floodlit football pitch with cork infill, constructed through a series of processes including earth moving, ground stabilisation, land drainage, and dynamic sub-base installation. Additional elements include 4.5m rebound sport fencing, an SBR shock pad, INDA X 45 Desso carpet, a 200 Lux 8 mast floodlight system, and a spectators' viewing gallery. The project was completed successfully, on schedule, and within budget.

Sportfields Ltd. constructed x1 AWP 71m x 106m of 60mm 3G Desso Carpet system, installed onto 15mm insitu rubber crumb shock pad. Surrounded with a 4m twin wire sports rebound fencing and 1.2m perimeter pathway. Along with the AWP, Sportfields Ltd. also constructed x1 MUGA 64m x 73m porous macadam tennis and netball surface with a 3m rebound fencing and 1.2m perimeter pathway. This project was completed within 8 weeks.

HINCKLEY POINT C POWER STATION

2m Deep Lateral Land Drainage and Carrier Drainage
The Halford Valley Project, next to the new power station, was drained to accommodate over 5 million cubic meters of subsoil from the nuclear reactor. Sportfields installed a complete land drainage system, including a main carrier and lateral drainage using a Herringbone System at Hinckley Power Point Station. The project was executed in 12 weeks with our laser-guided 2m AFT chain trencher and low ground pressure equipment. The installation involved backfilling non-organic soils into a V-Ditch over a stone layer, flush with the surface. Given the project's high profile, it demanded strict oversight of workforce, machinery, health and safety, and professionalism, which Sportfields Ltd. is committed to maintaining.

NORTHGATE PRIMARY SCHOOL

AWP Football Pitch
Sportfields Ltd. constructed a U10 FA Standard 3G pitch, including lateral and carrier drains, a geotextile membrane, and a laser-laid blinding layer. A 15mm insitu SRB shock pad was installed, topped with a sand-filled Desso D-Vision 40 3G carpet and marked playing lines. The project also featured 3m twin wire rebound fencing and floodlight infrastructure. Completed in 8 weeks for Kier Construction using our own specialist equipment.

NORTH BRIDGWATER SPORT PITCHES
Type 6 Sport England Football Pitches
Sportfields Ltd. secured this prestigious project from Aggregate Industries after a competitive tender. The work, performed under challenging weather conditions on the low-lying Somerset levels, met the client's budget and tight deadlines. We provided two natural grass pitches in line with the North East Bridgwater development, part of the Hinckley Point C power station's associated works. Our scope included bulk earthworks, vegetation removal, sub-base preparation, installing a porous membrane, and a 28,000-ton gravel raft. We finished with laser-laid topsoil to Sport England standards, turf installation with irrigation, deep aeration, sand amelioration, and a year of grass establishment and maintenance.

WEMBDON CRICKET CLUB FACILITY
Sportfields Ltd. completed a 10 week project of x2 full sized cricket playing fields for Swan Paul Partnership Ltd at Wembdon.
This sensitive habitat rich with wildlife was overseen by ecologists throughout the project ensuring water voles and wildlife were respected and properly managed.
The programme of works included spraying off vegetation, mobilization, protective fencing, site clearance, stripping off existing topsoil, cut and fill sub base leveling operation, reusing and leveling original topsoil to Sport England tolerances.
Primary land drainage installation consisted of 3m centres 80mm laterals to both cricket outfields. Two 30mx30 Natural cricket wickets installed with Ongar Loam and seeded with approved Germinal cricket wicket seed mixture. Irrigation hydrant points provided to both squares. Cricket outfield cultivated, ameliorated and seeded.
3 artificial wicket bowling and batting ends with cage safety nets also installed to the ECB standard.

Sportfields performed bulk earthwork movement of 5,500 cubic meters of sub soil excavation. Geo grid stabilisation. Tarmacadam porous sub-base. Insitu SBR shock pad and Desso 22ml Dessoforte carpet. This multi sports pitch comprised of tennis and hockey. Sport fencing, floodlighting and pathways were installed for completion. x1 3G Desso rugby pro 65ml SBR rubber crumb accompanied the multi sports pitch.
This project was a sensitive scheme coordinating works with live academy, whilst maintaining high health and safety and traffic management throughout construction.

BEDFORD SPORTS PAVILION
x6 Natural Turf Pitches
The Greenfield site was designed and constructed for six natural sports pitches spanning 18 acres. The project involved extensive cut and fill operations, topsoil screening, primary land drainage installation, and sand amelioration. Originally planned as a twelve-week project, it was successfully completed in nine weeks, followed by a twelve-month establishment period prior to handover.
The bulk earthworks encompassed topsoil stripping across the entire area, as well as laser grading of the sub-base utilizing Sportfields' two D6K LGP bulldozers. The process included power-screening the topsoil to remove stones down to 20mm, re-laying and grading the topsoil to meet Sport England tolerances, and installing primary land drainage at three-meter centers. Final grading and grass seeding were completed to ensure optimal conditions for the sports pitches.

Complementing the newly built primary school, Sportfields Ltd. constructed two fully drained natural turf pitches. Whilst retaining maximum spoil on site, we remediated sub-soils reducing costs of muck-away. Under difficult weather conditions Sportfields Ltd. managed and constructed these pitches to Sport England guidelines ready for the new school opening.

x2 Natural Turf Pitches
This 6.5-acre site, originally a Christmas tree plantation, was subsequently transformed into two full-size, fully drained natural turf football pitches. The project presented an exciting challenge, given the extensive network of tree roots within the soils. Sportfields Ltd. utilised their own power screen soil grader and a 20-tonne excavator to clean the root zone prior to seeding. Both pitches were equipped with primary land drainage installed at 3-meter centers, along with sand and gypsum amelioration to enhance soil fertility and drainage. The project was completed on time and within a tight budget.

Despite challenging ground conditions on a floodplain, Sportfields Ltd. successfully constructed and completed three tiered plateaus, resulting in three high-quality natural sports pitches for the primary school. The scope of work included subsoil remediation, laser grading, topsoil installation, sand amelioration, 5-meter primary land drainage, and a 12-month turf establishment and maintenance program. This project was commissioned by MI-Space and was completed within a six-week timeframe and within budget.
